We’ve gone to extra steps to make hiring skis as easy as possible for you, so that you don’t have to schlep to a ski shop, queue with hundreds of other people, and come away with boots too tight, and skis too slow. As always, you have various choices:
1. Pre-booking your ski hire / chalet fitting service
We work with our partners, Freeride. They have a fantastic website where you can enter all your details – height, weight, shoe size, ski standard, and then you can pre-book your kit. When you arrive
at Meribel, your skis and boots or snowboard will be waiting for you in the chalet, and then one of Freeride’s technicians will arrive to make sure your boots fit you properly. Any problems, and they’ll have other boots in their van to offer you alternatives. If you need anything sorted out during the week, you can either pop into their shop near
La Chaudanne, the main lift area, or you can call them to pop into the chalet. At the end of the week they’ll come and take your kit away. Freeride are offering Meribel Ski Chalets guests who book online, a 20% discount on equipment hire (excluding helmets).
2. Minibus Pick-up Service Freeride also offer the minibus pick-up service if you haven't found time to
book your skis online. They'll come to the chalet at an agreed time and whisk you in the comfort of their minibus straight to the Freeride shop where you can, smell the wax, unbuckle the buckles and twiddle the sticks, as you weigh up which skis and boots and to choose. Freeride will stay open until 10pm on weekends, as they realise that one or two people might be arriving in resort out of hours - now that's joined up thinking! Your 20% online discount won't apply, but you will get a 10% Meribel Ski Chalets guest discount (on equipment hire, but excluding helmets).
3. Pre-booking your ski hire / shop collection A cheaper version of the Freeride pre-booking service is offered by www.skidiscount.co.uk. Again you pre-order your kit online, by inputting all your details, and then when you arrive in resort you pop into Marine Sports in the centre of Meribel to pick up your kit. The service and the standard of equipment is not as good as Freeride, but it's a fair bit cheaper.
3. Pop into the ski shop.
Or, if you've been sitting on a plane or train all day, and prefer to stretch your legs, you can wander along to the shops yourself. Both Freeride (near Chaudanne, the main lift area) and Marine Sports (right in the town centre) offer Meribel Ski Chalets guests a 10% in store discount on ski equipment rental (helmets excluded). Alternatively there are plenty of other ski hire shops to choose from as you wander around town.
