There's so much to do in Meribel in the summer, and all of it against the back-drop of the breathtaking mountain landscape.

For starters there's mountain biking.  You can put your bike on the bubble cars to get up to the top of the mountain, and then take green, blue or red trails back down, but hang onto your helmets, some of the descents are steep and challenging.  There are some fantastic climbs aswell through the back country valleys.

At a slower pace, there are stunning mountain walks to be had, with wild flowers, and mountain goats aplenty.

And the list goes on - white water rafting, rock climbing, paragliding, archery, swimming, horse riding and tennis are available across the Trois Vallées.  And for the really intrepid adventurer, try canyoning, where you can traverse cliff faces by climbing down and across the mountain face and wading in ice-cold rock pools....

There are plenty of trouble-free, interconnecting marked trails to explore, and the beautiful Méribel golf course, high up on the altiport plateau has breathtaking views from the 1st tee to the 18th green.

You will find many welcome pit-stops in the bars and restaurants woven into the mountainsides, including comfortable refuges in the form of rustic huts, providing wholesome meals and accommodation.  Beds for the night cost from 5 Euros per person per night, and with each hut about a day's trek apart, it is possible to walk for hundreds of miles in complete, peaceful solitude.

Hiking bootsIn Meribel itself, a wide range of shops beckon, as well as bars, night clubs, and a number of Michelin star-rated restaurants.  For sheer indulgence, pamper yourselves with one of the many bespoke spa treatments that are widely available throughout the region, including hay-baths, saunas, steam rooms and spa pools, body peels, mud and thermal water treatments, and a wide range of face, body and massage treatments.

Meribel itself also lays on several themed weeks during the summer months - Mountain biking, Gastronomy week, Magic week, to name but three.  You'll get more details from the tourist office.
